Youth Media Festival Sub-Committee

For the first time in our conference history, ATOM are collaborating with prominent Melbourne youth media organisations to program the Youth Media Festival. We are proud to work with such an inspiring group of young content producers and media trainers.

SYN Media

SYN Media offers young people aged 12–25 the skills and platforms to be creators, not just consumers, of media. Through their training, schools and volunteer programs, SYN offer young people opportunity to develop skills on radio, television or digital media platforms. Through their radio and television channels – SYN 90.7, SYN Nation and SYN TV – participants get a rare chance to try their hands in a live broadcast environment. SYN Media also run core programs for schools:

  • Schools on Air: A weekly program for schools
  • Radio Workshops: Full-day workshops including a live broadcast
  • Radio Tours: Ninety-minute hands-on tours of the studios including the creation of a thirty-minute podcast.

Youthworx Media

Youthworx Media is a Media Arts training studio and video production company based in Melbourne. They offer supported courses to young people who have experienced homelessness or educational disadvantage. They work with around sixteen to eighteen young people per semester (around thirty per year) in their core training as well as running workshop programs for a further eighty young people each year.

Their big-sister company Youthworx Productions is a not-for-profit film production company that creates professional videos with a social conscience. This is the next step for trainees from the Youthworx Media courses. They currently employ five young graduates on a part-time and full-time basis.

ACMI Intermix

Intermix is ACMI’s free initiative for young people aged 15–25.

This dynamic and innovative youth program offers an extensive program of free events, developed in consultation with young people, providing opportunities to create, debate, design and interact. Intermix brings young creatives together.
From screenings and artist talks to workshops and live performance, Intermix provides access to international artists associated with ACMI exhibitions, as well as teaming up with local partners for events. An excellent pathway for tertiary and artistic progression, Intermix provides portfolio development opportunities and professional feedback.
