YMF Session highlight: Independent writer and performer, Emily Dash

Monday 20 June 2016

ATOM and ACMI are excited to highlight this session from Sydney artist, Emily Dash.

“An Artist, Not A Work Of Art – Reflections on Creative Practice”

Writer and performer Emily Dash was frustrated with the lack of adequate representation of minorities on our screens.  So she decided to do something about it, and made a short film called “I Am Not A Work Of Art”.  But that’s only the tip of the iceberg, and she certainly didn’t get there on her own.

Following a screening of her film, Emily Dash will present a talk drawing on her own experience as an artist with disability.  She will share some reflections on diverse storytelling and why it is so important.  But she will also discuss the hugely positive impact that her relationships with other creatives has had on her life and her career – and show why it is crucial for you as an an artist to find your people, cultivate strong relationships and support the work that gets you inspired.

This session also includes the opportunity for a Q+A.
